Oliver will NOT be able to connect to a website that does not have a valid SSL certificate.

As e-commerce websites contain sensitive information, an SSL certificate is essential to protect the data as it passes from the browser to the website’s server.

This is recommended for all websites and especially for websites that handle customer data such as credit card details and address and telephone numbers etc.

How will I know if the website I am connecting is secure?

Check the URL of your website and see if it says “HTTPS” at the start of the address (instead of “HTTP”). If you look at the address bar of your browser, you should see a small padlock before the address of your website. Clicking on it should show a message that says “connection is secure”, which means the SSL certificate is in place!

What does ‘Your Connection is not Private’ mean?

If you’re receiving the message “your connection is not private” on your browser, or “error code received” on WordPress, you might need an SSL Certificate.

Currently, Oliver POS does not support sites without this security encryption in place.

An SSL Certificate is used to encrypt sensitive information sent across the Internet so that only the intended recipient can access it. This security measure is important because the information you send on the Internet is passed from computer to computer to get to the destination server. Because Oliver POS uses an SSL on its servers, those servers will not allow sites without an SSL to access its data.

For your connectivity to work, please install an SSL Security on your site, or check with your hosting provider if they have SSL services for free as part of their hosting package.
