Learn how barcode scanning works on Oliver POS. Set up your simple and variable product barcodes in WooCommerce to use them on your Web Register.
Yes, Oliver POS supports barcode. If a shop has a barcode setup in WooCommerce, those barcodes can be used to search for a product or add the product to the cart on the Register.
The setup works a bit differently for a simple product and a variable product. Let’s look into it a bit more deeply:
When Oliver POS is installed in a WooCommerce shop, it will add the barcode field in the product detail page. When the barcode field is filled correctly, Oliver POS will look at this field to identify it as a unique product.
When the barcode is in place, this can be used in Oliver POS to add the product to the cart or search for the product in the search field.
When Oliver POS is installed in a WooCommerce shop, for a variable product, it will add multiple barcode fields in the product level, one under the parent variable product and one under each variation.
If the barcode field under the parent variable product is used, it will bring up the product selection screen when scanned in Oliver POS. The cashier can select the product variation from there to add it to the cart or search for the product in the search field.
If the barcode field under the individual variation is used, it will add the variation to the cart when scanned in Oliver POS. For a product variation, when the barcode is used in the search field, it will show the parent product on the list.
To check if the barcode scanner is picking up the right code, pull up a blank notepad in the computer, click on it and scan the barcode. Check the content that is displayed in the notepad, with the barcode field in the WooCommerce shop. Then pull up Oliver POS and use the search bar to scan for the product. Match the content of the search bar with the notepad and the WooCommerce product barcode field.
